Organizations and individuals in Haiti’s private and public sectors have come together to respond to the country’s needs, especially following the 2010 earthquake that killed up to 250,000 people and made more than one million homeless. Malnutrition, HIV/AIDS, and other infectious diseases, such as malaria and a post-earthquake cholera outbreak, put the health and lives of Haitians at further risk.
MEASURE Evaluation worked in Haiti until 2014 to improve the routine health information system (RHIS), to develop and strengthen the community-based information system (CBIS), and to enhance nutrition surveillance. MEASURE Evaluation also played an important role in helping the Haitian and U.S. governments identify disaster-relief priorities after the earthquake.
MEASURE Evaluation worked to collect and analyze data on program outcomes of two orphan and vulnerable children (OVC) projects in order to fulfill the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) Essential Survey Indicator reporting requirements and to inform program decision making.
Through the application of the MEASURE Evaluation guide on collecting these MER essential indicators, MEASURE Evaluation built the capacity of a local research partner in outcomes monitoring.
