HIS Interventions by Country

We identified the HIS strengthening needs in 11 countries where MEASURE Evaluation is working on HIS strengthening.

Each country is in a different stage of HIS strengthening and has different strengths and challenges. We identified the HIS strengthening needs in 11 countries where MEASURE Evaluation is working on HIS strengthening. A list of these countries is described in the table below.

Increase robustness of and accessibility to routine health information system (RHIS) data for healthcare workers to support regular data use

Botswana

Implement a new referral system to streamline reporting of gender-based violence

Burundi

Integrate duplicative reporting systems, including HIV surveillance

Côte d'Ivoire

Create a national data warehouse and address gaps in facility-level data quality and analysis

Democratic Republic
of the Congo

Unify 12 HIS subsystems (five of which were deemed nonfunctioning in 2011)

Guinea

Create an HIS strategic plan or HIS-specific monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plan and enable HIS to produce quality information needed for decision making

Madagascar

Reduce reporting redundancies by eliminating vertical systems and integrating them into a national HIS

Mali

Address specific needs for Ebola and malaria and improve coordination to increase data quality

Nigeria

  1. Design and roll out a high-functioning master facility list and health facility registry
  2. Develop and roll out a directory system of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) service providers

Senegal

Unify and integrate systems, improve infrastructure, integrate laboratory and community level data,  and improve data quality assurance through training

Eswatini

Integrate parallel systems for disease areas, streamline duplicative data management processes, increase capacity for data analysis, synthesize and increase use of data for decision making
