Abstract:From September 29 to October 4, 2003, The Routine Health Information Network (RHINO) held its second international gathering in South Africa. Around 100 health and information professionals from over 24 countries came to South Africa to share experiences and define strategies for Enhancing the Quality and Use of Health Information at the District Level. Based on the Networks experience to date and feedback from network members, this workshop intentionally focused on practical field-based challenges to improving routine health information. The format and tenor of the workshop emphasized participant interaction and learning to encourage maximum exchange of field-based experience and lessons learned. This report summarizes the proceedings and results of the workshop, including lessons learned for strengthening routine health information systems at the district level.
