Abstract:Health districts in Burkina Faso have the formidable task of providing care for 300,000 to 400,000 people per district with severely limited resources for HIV/AIDS prevention. In June through October 2001, health officials in Burkina Faso adapted and pilot tested the PLACE method for planning HIV/AIDS interventions. This study presents the results of that effort. Key informants identified more than 400 sites where high-risk populations met to socialize and meet new sexual partners; individuals attending these venues were then interviewed about their knowledge and risk behaviors.
