PEPFAR ambassador recognizes MEASURE Evaluation staff for work on DATIM
Manish Kumar, MPH, MEASURE Evaluation’s senior technical specialist for health systems strengthening, has received a certificate of appreciation from Ambassador Deborah Birx, MD, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy. Kumar, a former Rotary Peace Fellow, is also an adjunct assistant professor in the Public Health Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health.
The certificate was awarded to Kumar and four other MEASURE Evaluation team members in June to recognize their contributions to the development and maintenance of a health information platform that enables the collection of HIV health indicators, information from facilities that offer HIV care, and health outcomes for HIV-affected clients. Called, DATIM (Data for Accountability, Transparency and Impact), the system is a product of the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). MEASURE Evaluation helps to support the work.
In addition to Kumar, MEASURE Evaluation’s Annah Ngaruro, Vlad Shioshvili, Ping Huang, and Michael Mwebaze were recognized for their work with DATIM system development and maintenance.
DATIM captures all PEPFAR’s monitoring, evaluation and reporting indicators, and assists in targeting where HIV resources are needed through geospatial information systems. It also facilitates improvements to healthcare sites through monitoring of system data.
Currently, DATIM is being used in PEPFAR programs in more than 50 countries to fulfill its mandate to do the right things, in the right places, at the right time (right now) to save lives. The DATIM system is built on an adapted version of DHIS 2, the software platform used to collect health facility data in low- and medium-income countries worldwide.
