DRC Data Use Assessment Participant GroupKINSHASA, Democratic Republic of the Congo—This week, national- and provincial-level staff from the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), Health Management Information System (HMIS) Division, and other malaria organizations and implementing partners are in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to participate in data collection for a MEASURE Evaluation data use assessment. The purpose of the assessment is to understand the data use landscape within the NMCP in order to determine key challenges and brainstorm solutions to improving data use for evidence-based decision making within the organization.

DRC Data Use Assessment Participants MEASURE Evaluation is using several tools, including key informant interviews, individual self-assessments on data use skills, and group assessments on data use culture, to inform the assessment. Together, we will identify collaborative actions and a way forward so that the NMCP can build a sustainable and institutionalized culture of data use within its organization.

Malaria is a major health problem in DRC and accounts for the majority of morbidity and mortality in the country. Having the tools and skills to effectively use data to make decisions around malaria can help the DRC in its response to malaria.
