RHINO Workshop Participants to Advocate for Strong Routine Health Information Systems

The 4th International Routine Health Information Network (RHINO) Workshop, held March 8-12, 2010 in Guanajuato, Mexico by RHINO in collaboration with the Mexican Federal Ministry of Health, Guanajuato State Ministry of Health, Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica, the Pan American Health Organization, United States Agency for International Development, and MEASURE Evaluation, focused on how to measure and improve routine health information system (RHIS) performance.
During the Workshop, participants analyzed data from an RHIS assessment conducted in January 2010 in Guanajuato State and used the PRISM tools to recommend interventions that would strengthen the health system and ultimately improve health outcomes for the general population.
The workshop was attended by 100 participants from 30 countries, from every continent. During his closing speech, Dr. Theo Lippeveld, RHINO Board of Directors Chairman, noted the participants represented a good balance between data users and data producers as was explicitly asked for by the RHINO Board of Directors.
Participants left the workshop energized and inspired. They created action plans to advocate for strong RHIS and to incorporate the PRISM tools to measure and strengthen RHIS in their respective countries.
