Development and Validation of a Reproductive Empowerment Scale for Use in Sub-Saharan Africa
Join MEASURE Evaluation on January 16, 2020 at 9am EST for a one-hour webinar on the development and validation of a reproductive empowerment scale for use in sub-Saharan Africa. The webinar will be led by MEASURE Evaluation’s Mahua Mandal, PhD, MPH, and Lisa Marie Albert, PhD, MPH.
Numerous studies have demonstrated that women’s empowerment positively affects several reproductive health outcomes, including unintended pregnancies and family size preference. However, a recent systematic literature review of women’s empowerment and fertility revealed that about one-third of studies resulted in significant inverse findings and/or non-significant associations. This suggests that the relationship between fertility and empowerment is inconsistent or unclear across empowerment domains, and that a focus on empowerment as it is specifically linked to family planning and other reproductive health outcomes may be useful. In recent years, this domain of empowerment has been referred to as reproductive empowerment. This webinar will discuss the multi-step process of developing and validating a reproductive empowerment scale for use in sub-Saharan Africa.
