Six Essential Functions of a High-Performing Health Information System

Abstract:

To achieve the greatest health, public health practitioners and policy makers must be able to use data to perform these six essential functions:

Monitor trends in health outcomes and services
Ensure that data are trustworthy
Make decisions quickly and efficiently
Identify what works
Ensure the coordination and equity of health services
Manage resources for the greatest benefit
